The corona forced us to postpone the concert by a year, the deadline is approaching and we believe that even if the pandemic may not be a thing of the past yet, thanks to the cultural traffic lights, the possibilities of holding a concert even in covid times are defined. The Game of Tenors concert by voice virtuosos Lawrence Brownlee and Michael Spyres is part of the World Opera Stars cycle, where we present the best and most sought-after world opera singers. So far, mostly solo, mostly with a guest from another voice department, but we have never had two voices sound the same.
Same? Actually, not even. But you will hear that at the concert, where they sing the most famous bel canto arias and play their virtuosity to incredible proportions.
Lawrence Brownlee ushered in "a new golden age in high male voices" (The New York Times). No wonder that o.i. he is the recipient of the Opera Oscar - International Opera Award 2017 in the Male Voice of the Year category. Lawrence Brownlee is not new to Bratislava, he gave concerts here in 2012 and 2017.
Michael Spyres became famous for his firm heights, but also for his baritone depths and excellent interpretation of the characters of his vocal department. Compared to Brownlee, however, he also reaches for a more dramatic repertoire, so we, for example, in 2018 o.i. they could experience in Vienna as Rodolfo (Puccini, Bohemia). In addition, within the Opera rara (opera rarities) association, he contributes to the dissemination of forgotten or lesser-known works and is a sought-after guest of opera stages when presenting such operas. Among the awards, it is worth mentioning the nomination for the International Opera Award 2015 for the best singer.
